Leica T – First thoughts

April 25th, 2014  |  by  |  published in Blog, Gadgets

Leica took its sweet time to release a modern, mirrorless system camera. Dubbed the Leica T, available in black and silver, it resembles a design we have seen from Sony in its NEX cameras. The camera will be manufactured and assembled in a dedicated plant in Germany, while the native lenses for the new T mount will only be Leica branded but in fact be manufactured and assembled by Panasonic</...

Report from the trenches – #2

March 21st, 2014  |  by  |  published in Blog

I thought it’s time to share stuff more frequently here, so starting today you will find a selection of interesting finds and reads from all over the Internet. Rather than just resorting to re-tweeting or re-posting stuff on Twitter or Tumblr, it’s more fun to post them on this blog where I have the room and freedom to comment with more than just a handful of words. Why “Report from the tren...

Happy New Year!

January 2nd, 2014  |  by  |  published in Blog, Feature

Happy New Year! I wish everybody a happy new year 2014! For me, 2013 has been a very busy year with lots of work related travel and 2014 looks just as busy - in fact I am leaving for a business trip to CES at Las Vegas this weekend. Just like last year, I'll be leaving that couch behind me a lot in 2014. And one of the resolutions for the new year is that I'm going to share more of my travel and photography with ...

Example Pictures: Perspective versus Focal Length

December 29th, 2013  |  by  |  published in Blog, Photography

Example Pictures: Perspective versus Focal Length A lot of people wrongfully associate perspective with focal length and suggest that a change or different choice of focal length alters the perspective, "compresses" it or "distorts" it.  This of course is rubbish as perspective is defined only by the distance of the lens to the subjects in the image. Often the term "lens perspective" is used incorrectly wh...

Someone is wrong – Perspective versus Focal Length

December 28th, 2013  |  by  |  published in Blog, Feature, Photography

Someone is wrong - Perspective versus Focal Length In photography, one of the most common misconceptions is about perspective, how it is defined and what alters or modifies it. Just search the Internet for a good definition of the term and you'll understand where some of that confusion is probably coming from in an age where nobody seems to bother buying a decent text book anymore and resorts to free content online only as their o...

April 9th, 2013  |  by  |  published in Blog, Gadgets

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera So, I'm at NAB Show in Las Vegas at the moment and one of the surprise announcements has been a tiny new camera by Blackmagic that features a custom Super 16 size sensor and active Micro Four Thirds mount. The camera was on display with various Micro Four Thirds and other lenses attached. According to Blackmagic, it'll be available through the usual Blackmagic sales channels this summer. I played ...

London Festival of Photography Feedback

London Festival of Photography Feedback Last year, I participated in the International Street Photography Award 2012 of the London Festival of Photography. The entries I submitted are a mix of black and white images (all digital), circling on the theme of commuting. Most images were taken either at dark evenings or at night or within areas with little available light. ...

Subway Pattern

July 28th, 2012  |  by  |  published in Blog

Subway Pattern Things happen fast in street photography. I spotted this woman whose headscarf and dress matched the color pattern of the subway station and while I saw the image forming in my mind, I wasn't quick enough the raise the camera to eye level, so this is a shot from the hip - hence the not ideal exposure. I still think this image works....
